Uptime monitoring FAQ for teams, agencies and stores
Short, direct answers to the questions engineering leads, agency owners and store operators ask before they add their first monitor. If your question is not here, write to [email protected] and we reply within one business day.
01
What does UptimePilot monitor?
UptimePilot checks websites, APIs, servers and scheduled jobs. Every plan includes HTTP(S) checks, keyword checks, API checks with assertions, ping, TCP port, SSL certificate, domain expiry and heartbeat monitors. You get an alert by email, SMS, Slack, Microsoft Teams or webhook the moment a monitor is confirmed down. The full list is on the uptime monitoring features page.
02
How long does it take to add the first monitor?
About a minute. You paste a URL, choose the check type and regions, pick who gets alerted and save. The first check runs right away, and the monitor keeps running on its interval from then on. The how uptime monitoring works page walks through each step.
03
Can I try a check before I create an account?
Yes. The website uptime test runs a real check of any public URL and shows status code, response time, a timing breakdown, redirects and certificate details. It is limited to a few checks per day, and no card is required to run a check.
04
Do I need to install anything on my servers?
No. Checks run from outside, the same way a visitor reaches you. For scheduled jobs, the job itself calls a unique heartbeat URL at the end of each run, which is a single line in your script or crontab.
01
How often are my monitors checked?
Every minute on Starter and every 30 seconds on Team, Business and Enterprise. You can set a longer interval per monitor if a resource does not need tight checks.
02
Which regions do checks run from?
Checks run from two regions today, US East and EU Central. Each monitor runs from its main region, and a second region confirms any failure before the monitor is marked down.
03
How does UptimePilot avoid false alarms?
A single failed request is not an outage. When a check fails, a second region repeats it. Only when both regions see the failure is the monitor marked down and the alert sent. This removes most alarms caused by a brief network hiccup on one route. The guide on how to reduce false alarms in uptime monitoring covers thresholds in more detail.
04
What counts as down for a website check?
A monitor is down when the request times out, the connection or TLS handshake fails, the status code is outside the accepted range, or a keyword check finds the wrong content. You set the timeout, the accepted status codes and the keyword rule per monitor.
05
Can I monitor an API that needs authentication?
Yes. API checks accept the method, headers (including an authorization header), a request body and JSON assertions on the response. Stored tokens are encrypted and shown masked in the account. See api monitoring for the details.
01
Which alert channels are included?
Email, SMS, Slack, Microsoft Teams and webhook are included in every plan. SMS has a monthly allowance per plan: 30 on Starter, 150 on Team, 500 on Business and 1,500 on Enterprise.
02
What happens when SMS alerts for the month run out?
Alerts keep going out by email, Slack, Microsoft Teams and webhook as usual. SMS starts again with the next billing month, or right away if you move to a higher plan.
03
How does escalation work?
You set an escalation rule per monitor or group. If nobody acknowledges an alert within the minutes you choose, UptimePilot alerts the next person or channel on the list. The website downtime tracker page shows typical setups.
04
Can I silence alerts during scheduled work?
Yes. Maintenance windows pause alerts for the monitors you pick, for the time you set. Checks still run, so you can see when the service comes back, and the window can also show as scheduled maintenance on your status page.
01
What is included in a status page?
Your logo and colors, components that map to your monitors, incident updates, scheduled maintenance and email updates for subscribers. Pages can be public or password protected. Read more on the status page page.
02
Can a status page use my own domain?
Yes, on Team and higher. You point a subdomain such as status.yourcompany.com to your page and UptimePilot serves it there with a valid certificate.
03
How many status pages do I get?
One on Starter, five on Team with custom domains, 20 on Business with password protection, and 50 on Enterprise.
01
What do uptime reports show?
Uptime percent, response time percentiles (p50, p95, p99), and an incident log with start, end and duration for each outage. Team and higher add a monthly SLA report as PDF.
02
Can agencies send reports under their own brand?
Yes. Business and Enterprise include white-label client reports, so each client gets a monthly report with your agency branding. The uptime monitoring service page explains how reports are built.
03
How long is check history kept?
90 days on Starter, 1 year on Team, 2 years on Business and 3 years on Enterprise.
01
How many team members can I invite?
3 on Starter, 10 on Team, 25 on Business and 100 on Enterprise. Members are included in the plan price, so adding the on-call rotation does not change the bill.
02
Do you support roles and single sign-on?
Every plan has roles and groups of monitors per client or project. Enterprise adds SSO (SAML) and an audit log of account activity. More on the uptime monitoring security page.
03
Who owns my monitor data?
You do. Monitor configuration and check results belong to your account, are used only to run the service for you and are never sold.
01
How does billing work?
UptimePilot is a subscription, billed monthly or yearly. Yearly billing saves 50%, for example Team is $99 a month, or $49 a month billed yearly at $588. All plans and limits are on the uptime monitoring pricing page.
02
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes, from your account at any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and your plan stays active until the end of the period you already paid for.
03
What happens when I upgrade?
The upgrade takes effect right away and you are charged the price difference for the rest of the current period immediately. Moving to a lower plan applies from the next period.
04
Are payments refundable?
Payments are final. The narrow exceptions, such as a duplicate charge, are described in the refund policy.
